Applied Psychology
AP Psychology has been a challenging course than all other classes I have taken before. However, I have learned many ideas and concepts that have better prepare me as a person. Taking AP Psychology I noticed that it connects too many issues around the world. Psychology can be used to interpret any changes in the real world. Social justice is connected to the field of psychology. Social Justice is a movement of behavior to fight for action against injustices in our society. Psychology is the behavior understanding in which connects to social justice because there are many behavior and actions that are used to reinforce change or cause frustration. However, all behaviors connect to the understating of psychology views.
As I began in my research of my fire project I learned that many people lack of knowledge and understanding. In which prevents them to fight for change against injustices in our society. My topic of gentrification connects to psychology by the conformity understanding. Many people in our society follow the society rules and ideas. In addition, residents of low income neighborhoods have conform that gentrification isn’t happening in their community. Residents are forced to think that they are safe but in reality they are in danger. However, frustration causes change to happen and soon people realize that they are not being treated equally.
In addition, my project connects to psychology by the understanding of the bystander effect. Residents of low income neighborhoods are forced to move out because they could no longer afford to live in the gentrified community. However, incoming residents are coming into the community and noticing that other residents are being displaced but they don’t do anything to help the original residents. Incoming residents tend to ignore the problem with no motivation of helping out others and it continues to spread in the community.
Teaching my fire project issue to my fellow classmates I notice that they all have various attitudes. Attitude is connecting to behavior with the understanding of psychology. Attitude can be described in two different situations. Attitude can be a motivation to make a change and work together to solve a problem. Also attitude can be the ability of ignoring a problem and nothing doing anything to fix or make a change.
To add on, self serving bias can also be a connection with my fire project and psychology. Residents of low income communities tend to hide their emotions and pretend that everything is okay. Looking themselves feel the superior than the other in the community. However, in reality they are struggling but decide to not doing anything about the problem. Self serving bias can be a leading root cause to gentrification.
Also Positive reinforcement can be a connection with my fire project and psychology to solve the gentrification process. Residents can help stop gentrification by making contribution in their communities and receiving an award. Any reward can be awarded to serve a stimulus. At the end, the stimulus can create a plan or solution to stop gentrification because residents are being notified.
Last, emotion can also be a connection with my fire project and psychology. Emotion can be in describe in many different ways and interpret any other different ways. Emotion connects to the process gentrification because residents are fighting back. However, government and laws had impacted the residents who are fighting back by ignoring them and they are all put down and are discouraged to keep making a change. To solve gentrification people’s emotions need to be positive or to create a passion for change.
Psychology today has helped shape our society by the understating of disorders, attitudes, and emotions. In addition to the understanding of learning about how the brain has helped our civilization to be a success. People who have an understanding psychology have helped them in their success to achieve their dream and ideal goals. My major take away this year of AP Psychology is the understanding of behavior can influence any situation. This has helped me realized on whom to approach my behavior in different environments increasing my social skill as well.
